Kupčegen (A-49)
Description
A horn plate with this inscription was found in 1987 by a pupil Ė. Bultušev and his teacher V.M. Monosov in the location Kür-Keču near the mouth of the River Bol’shoj Il’gumen’. In 1991, this plate was brought to the National Museum of the Republic Altai named after A.V. Anoxin; the inventory number of the plate is № 9469.
This inscription is unique because it was made on a horn plate used, probably, for making leather belts. Judging by the bad condition of the inscription, this instrument was used for a long time. The length of the plate is 25,5cm, its width is 3–4cm.
The inscription consists of 15 runic signs, there are no word dividers; all the signs are rather deep; they should ne read from right to left; at the place where there is a hole, the signs are written lower, along the edge of the plate. The length of the line is 10,7cm, the height of the characters is 1,0–1,3cm.
