Kalbak-Tash VII (A-27)

 

Description

This inscription is situated in the right hand corner among other inscriptions here in the upper part of  plane I . It is well preserved; the inscription is dne with thin deep cuts. The inscription has 9 signs. Its length is 19cm, the height of the characters is 1,3–3,5cm. It was first interpreted by V.M. Nadeljaev in 1980 году. Only 3 signs of his reading were identified by him correctly, consequently, our readings differ a lot.

Transcription: Sän äsid mä usïŋïl!

Translation: You should listen and understand!

Reading of I. L. Kyzlasov

Transliteration: r² p n² t² d² m r² t² i

Transcription: (e)rp(ä)n t(e)d(i)m (e)r(i)(t)ti

Translation: I judged as wrong (- denied) (this), said he (and) он he got purified (his sins were forgivven)!

Transcription: (e)r(i)p(ä)n /(ä)rp(ä)n t(e)d(i)m (ä)rti

Translation: Criticizing / Erpen: «[This] I said; apparently!»

Comments

1. r2 p n2 (ä)rp(ä)n can be a proper name. At the same time, there is a verb yer- ‘criticize’, where the first y is instable. Consequently, (e)r-(i)p(ä)n could be a converb form of this verb; and the meaning of the whole: inscription  (e)r(i)p(ä)n t(e)d(i)m (ä)rti ‘I said that as criticism’.
