Kalbak-Tash III (A-24)

Description

This inscription is well preserved; it is situated in the upper part of plane I. The text has 5 signs arranged in a vertical line, Its length is 5,8cm, the height of the signs is 1,7–2,7cm. The inscription was first interpreted by V.M. Nadeljaev in 1980; it is read from bottom to top.

Translation: Al Egin (aproper name ‛redhaired nephew’).

Comments

It is a proper name El Yegen. We transcribe it as y(e)g(ä)n, however, the variant y(ä)g(ä)n also existed. It is possible that y(e)g(ä)n  is a more recent variant where the first vowel ä got narrowed under the influence if y.
