Mendür-Sokkon III (A-11)

 

Description

The inscription Mendür-Sokkon III was also on teh same rock as the inscriptions Mendür-Sokkon I and II and was lost in the course of construction works. It was discovered by B.X. Kadikov in 1960 and given to K. Sejdakmatov and N.A. Baskakov. K. Sejdakmatov called it «short vertical inscription», while N.A. Baskakov inscription № 3. The inscription consists of 25 signs. It sindex in DTS - А7 (Čaryš II).

Transcription:

aq arqyγ süz äläs aš antan (?): y süz älčig.

Translation:

Purify the white очисть белый stream,rise from there, cut through (?) the bushes, tribe(?).

Reading of N.A. Baskakov

Transcription:

q(y)rgyγ söz(i)n aš j(y)šyγ söz(i)γ č(y)q

Translation: if it concernspastures on muntain slopes – your thoughts (words) are about how to succeed in traversing them; if it concerns dark forests (taiga) - your thoughts (words) are about how to succeed in getting out of the woods.

Lit.: Mountain pasture  – your word – traverse!: dark taiga – your word – get out!

Transcription:

k(a)r(a)kïg sözl(ä)t(ä)y(i)n : a sözl(ä)šgil!

Translation:

Let me make the eyes speak (without words)! Start talking to each other! (lit.: speak to each other)!

 

Comments:

1. The sequence s2 Ü z l2 is repeated twice.

2. In sözl(ä)t(ä)y(i)n the character t1 is between 2 front consonants.

3. The verb sözl(ä)-t- is a causative verb formed fom the base sözl(ä)- ‘speak’. Compare Erdal 1998: 88–89 where we encounter examples with sözlät- in similar contexts
